Overtime hours are hours worked beyond the regular workday:

  • 125% — 25% premium on regular pay for the first 2 overtime hours of each workday.
  • 150% — 50% premium on regular pay for each additional hour beyond the first 2 overtime hours of a workday.
  • 175% — 75% premium on regular pay for the first 2 overtime hours on Saturdays and holidays.
  • 200% — 100% premium on regular pay for each additional hour beyond the first 2 overtime hours on Saturdays and holidays.

How overtime is calculated

For a typical five-day private-sector workweek, regular weekly hours are 42. Four regular days are generally 8 hours 36 minutes net and one fixed short day is 7 hours 36 minutes net. Daily and weekly overtime tests both matter.
